For heavy-duty freeway transport chain, Grade 70 is the standard and most commonly used grade due to its strength, durability, and compliance with transportation regulations. It’s specifically designed for load securement, towing, and tie-down applications in the trucking industry. Grade 70 transport chain, often called "Truckers Chain," is made from heat-treated carbon steel, offering a working load limit (WLL) typically ranging from 3,150 to 15,800 lbs, depending on chain size (e.g., 1/4" to 5/8"). Its gold chromate finish helps resist corrosion and makes it easily identifiable for Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, meeting standards set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), and National Association of Chain Manufacturers (NACM).
Brass chains are best used for decorative purposes, like hanging light fixtures, plant baskets, or jewelry, and light-duty applications in humid or fresh-water environments, such as sink stoppers or coastal decor, where their corrosion resistance and golden shine stand out. Avoid heavy ocean use due to dezincification risks.
